We all have favorite authors we like to return to again and again, and we eagerly await their new books. But how do you find NEW authors? Lots of folks find out about new books and authors by hearing recommendations from friends (and hopefully librarians!). Another way is to look at awards lists. The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) gives out the Morris Award every year to YA book by a previously unpublished author. These are the authors that you want to keep an eye on! This year's nominees were recently announced:
Wonder Show by Hannah Barnaby
Love and Other Perishable Items by Laura Buzo
After the Snow by S.D. Crockett
The Miseducation of Cameron Post by Emily Danforth
Seraphina by Rachel Hartman
The winner will be announced in January, and in the meantime, you have some great books by first time authors to check out!
Previous winners include:
Where Things Come Back by John Corey Whaley
The Freak Observer by Blythe Woolston
Flash Burnout by L.K. Madigan
A Curse as Dark as Gold by Elizabeth C. Bunce
Check out a Morris winner--one of them may become a new favorite author!
