Artist and East High School graduate, Jordan Casteel, returns to Denver in February for her solo show at Denver Art Museum, Returning the Gaze. Being an artist "wasn't something that I saw as an ambition I could have for myself" while a student visiting art museums. In a recent interview, Casteel explains "[t]he makers of whatever was within those walls were not people I thought I could identify with."
Now based in Harlem, Casteel is simply known as "Painter" and Casteel's art is representative of what she knows best: family and community. Casteel is also a big reader and often shares impactful books. Checkout two titles, The Underground Railroad and Between the World and Me. (Ask Us if you need assistance placing holds.)
Jordan Casteel will be offering a free Teen Q&A along with invited panelists. Registration is required. Click here for more information.
