Are you excited to be able to get physical books from the library again? Well, the library staff who make Personalized Reading Lists are SO excited, we thought this would be a great time to launch a new upgrade to children’s and teen PRLs.
Now, if you request a Personalized Reading List that includes children’s and/or teen books, you have the option to request that staff choose three titles from the list we’re making for you and place them on hold for you.
How does it work?
It starts out like any other PRL request. You tell us what kind of books you like and don’t like (or if you haven’t read in a while, you can just tell us what kind of thing you’re interested in). A real human staff member takes time to research and pick out some other books that we think you’ll like. And the kids’ and teens’ forms now have the option to request that we place holds for you, and to enter a library card number and pickup branch.
After you make your request, you’ll receive your Personalized Reading List after no more than a week. A few days later, you’ll receive notices that your holds are ready for pickup at your chosen branch!
What if you don’t want holds placed?
If you don’t want holds placed, just choose “no” to that question. You won’t be prompted to enter your library card number.
What if you want holds placed, but don’t have a library card?
If you want to try this out before you have had a chance to get a physical library card, you can use the “Get a Library Card” page to acquire an ecard, which we could then use to place your holds.
If you’re under 18, you would need to bring your parent or guardian with their ID and proof of address to get a permanent, full card that will enable you to check out physical items like your three holds. Alternatively, on your own you can get a provisional card to check out your three items. Over 18? Bring photo ID and proof of address to get your very own permanent card.
How do I get started?
Just go to the PRL request page and start typing! We can’t wait to pick out some fresh reads for you.
