Denver Public Library and National History Day: Breaking Barriers in Research

Each year, more than half a million students participate in the National History Day Contest. Students choose a historical topic related to the annual theme, and then conduct primary and secondary research. Students will look through libraries, archives and museums, conduct oral history interviews, and visit historic sites. They present their work in one of five ways: as a paper, an exhibit, a performance, a documentary, or a website.

College admission essay: Make them fall in love with you

It's college admissions season. High school seniors around the country are getting ready to submit school transcripts and standardized test scores to their schools of choice and ask for letters of recommendation from trusted adults. They are summing up their extracurricular activities in resumes, and perhaps making a last push to improve their class rank. There is still one important, and sometimes intimidating, piece to the admissions puzzle: the college admissions essay.
